When we want to browse the internet without leaving a trace, we often use the built-in private mode of our preferred browser. This is not bad but it doesn't prevent prying eyes from peeking on your monitor to see what you are doing. There is no built-in quick hide button/key for ie, firefox and chrome. If you want to hide your browser quickly without losing your browsing session then instead use another browser called underBrowser. It is a minimalist browser that has no regular features such as bookmarking, tab browsing, password saving and etc. But it has the most important feature you want on a private browser, a boss key.
By pressing F1 key, underBrowser will hide immediately, leaving no trace behind in the taskbar or system tray. To bring it back just press F2 and your browser session will be restored instantly.
It should work on all Windows operating system. I tested it on Windows 7 x86 system.
Every morning on weekdays, I always login to my Google Analytics account to view the traffic statistics of my websites. I have been searching for a way to display these statistics right on my desktop like that one we see on stock exchange monitors. I was glad I found about Polaris. It is a cross-platform desktop widget for Google Analytics that let you display your analytics data in 8 standard report formats instantly. Once installed, you need to complete the one time setup. First you have to create an account with Polaris and then provide your Google Analytics account to access. Immediately after the setup, Polaris will display the eye-candy data dashboard which you also see when you login to Google Analytics.
You can choose between 8 standard reports (dashboard, visits overview, map overlay, traffic sources and etc.). You can also change the date range and website profile from the toolbar. Since Polaris runs on Adobe AIR, it can run on any platform that runs AIR. I tested it under Windows 7 x86 operating system.
An old friend of mine message me yesterday to ask for a utility that can extract SQL server tables definition and document it. Instantly an old but a useful tool comes to my mind, SQLDoc. It is a small command prompt utility that can help to automatically document your SQL Server/MSDE database. SqlDoc can extract the following table info: table names, columns names, field types, lengths, nullable columns, and field description. Its usage is simple, from the command prompt just run SqlDoc with the necessary parameters as shown below,
The output file is in HTML format (default is output.html) like the sample below.
SqlDoc is opensource software so which you can customize so you can retrieve other table info or omit information that you don't want to be documented.

When sending large files, I usually upload them on a free hosting server like Mediafire and MegaUpload. But if privacy is your concern, free hosting server is not a good option for you. A better way to share files online is sharing them directly from your computer. How? by using a software like Orzeszek Transfer, you can setup your local computer as the hosting server for the files you wanted to share. Orzeszek Transfer is free and simple file transfer utility that allows you to send larger files to anyone with a web browser. When you add a file for sharing, the app creates a link that you can send to anyone who has a web browser or a download manager. With that link, they can download the shared file directly from you.
To make it work you need a public IP address which is provided by your broadband/dsl provider (this is automatically detected by the program). And then you have to forward an external port (30000 by default) to your local IP address.
It works on any Windows version. I tested it under Windows 7 x86 system. You need to install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 or later.
