Check Which Application Is Connected To Internet With CurrPorts

One way to hunt down a virus/malware running on a machine is to check for application or process that transmit data to internet or network in background. You can always check these suspected apps in your firewall logs but locating them is pretty tedious given that logs can be huge. Currports is a free network monitoring software that can display a list of all currently opened TCP/IP and UDP ports on your local computer. With such information, you can determine which applications are connected to other computers and to the cloud. Each process in the list is displayed with its Process ID, Protocol, Port, Local Address, Remote Port, Remote Address, Remote Hostname, State of the connection, Process/App full path and etc.

You can use the information such as remote address and remote port to check if a process/app is currently connected to a remote computer or internet. If your not familiar with a running process that is connected to a remote address then you should be alarmed and do the necessary action. If you need to filter the list, you can do so by going to the options menu. On the program itself you can kill directly any unwanted application or kill all applications using a specific port. If you wish to save the list for further investigation, you can do so by pressing CTRL+S or by going to File > Save Selected Items. You have the option to save the list as text, csv and html file.

CurrPorts is available as portable application to eliminate installation hassle. It can run on any Windows version including Windows 7.
