Although the standard Windows Explorer is enough for typical users, it lacks features for power users like me. This is where enhanced file management tools like Explorer++ comes in. Explorer++ is a small portable tool for Windows that can be used as powerful alternative to the standard Windows Explorer. Its familiar interface is same with Windows Explorer but utilizes tabbed browsing and has a lot more features to offer. Since its portable, you don't have to install it, just run it after you download the package. Its main interface displays the available folders and drives on the left side pane. Upon clicking any drives/folders icon, the content will be showed on the right pane, similar to Windows Explorer navigation.
Here are some of reasons why you want it to replace your standard Explorer.
- Open any folder/drive in a New Tab
- Customizable user interface
- Easy-to-remember keyboard shortcuts for quick navigation
- Wildcard selection. You can auto select files based on its naming convention.
- Advanced file operations such as merging and splitting

Explorer++ is great tool to replace or use along with the standard Windows Explorer. It works on Windows XP and later. For this article, I tested it with Windows 7.
