How To Convert NEF To JPEG With RealJPEG

Working with NEF Raw FormatIf your using Nikon DSLR camera, then you can encounter an image type of NEF or Nikon Electronic Format. This type of image is a RAW format exclusive for Nikon cameras. RAW image files, sometimes referred to as digital negatives, contain all the image information captured by the camera's sensor, along with the image's metadata (the camera's identification and its settings, the lens used and other information). The NEF is written in either an uncompressed or "lossless" compressed form. Using NEF has some benefits such as, there is no in-camera processing for white balance, hue, tone and sharpening are applied to the NEF file. There are also some challenges when using NEF file.

Not all computers can open such type of file and sometimes can make your system slow down. If computer can't read NEF files then you need to download this NEF codec from Nikon. Another issue is, NEF format is not advisable for sharing simply because unlike JPEG, it is not widely used format. To convert NEF to JPEG, you can use conversion softwares such as RealJPEG.
