I already mentioned some website monitoring tools before such as WUMP. For this article, I will again mention one but this time it is a free web service. Uptime Robot is a website that helps you monitor the uptime of your websites every 5 minutes and alerts you if one of them are down. It asks for your websites headers and gets status codes like "200-ok", "404-not found", etc. If the one of your website returns status codes such as ~400+ and 500+, then there is a problem and you will get notified at once.A good thing about this free website is that it don't affect your statistics (Ex. Google Analytics) because it only downloads the HTTP headers of a website which means it doesn't download the analytics tracking codes of Google Analytics, Woopra, etc.
To start monitoring your websites with Uptime Robot, just signup for an account, activate your account from your email and your good to go. Login to the website then add the websites you want to monitor. Take note that you can add up to 50 websites to monitor.
Visit Uptime Robot.
