Turn Off Caching of Thumbnail Pictures to Speed Up Windows 7

One way to speed up your Windows 7 machine without hardware upgrade is to disable some its features such as windows effects, indexing, sounds, thumbnail caching and etc. For today's blog entry, I will show you how to speed up your computer by Turning Off the creation of thumbnail cache. Windows takes some Disk and CPU resources to create the thumbnails, and then takes some more resources to delete and recreate the cache. Lets start by heading over to Start Search, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

The Windows Local Group Policy Editor will open and you need to navigate to the following key: "User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer". Search and right click "Turn off caching of thumbnail pictures" and then select "Edit". Select "Enabled" from the list of options and hit OK to apply changes.

Thats it! Please take note that although this tip can speed up your machine it may slowdown your image browsing since the thumbnail will be read from the cache instead of having to generate every time.
