Isn't cool if you can see a graphical view of what is occupying your hard drive's space? Yes you can actually see it using a free portable application called Space Sniffer. Start by downloading the app (1.1MB zip file), extract it anywhere, and double click SpaceSniffer exe. It will ask you for the drive to scan, just hit the "Start" button to see the magic. Based on my test, disk scan was quiet fast and it doesn't need too much memory and you can leave it running while doing something else on your computer. After the scan process, Space Sniffer will display several elements (represents folders and files). The bigger are the elements on the view the bigger space it take on your disk.

To see more detail on a big folder? Just single click on it to zoom in. The selected element will be zoom in with its detailed content. If you want to find images that takes too much space then you can use the filter option. For example, you can type "*.jpg" on the filter field and press enter. The view will react and show you only JPEG files. Of course you can filter any type of file. This portable application also supports Windows 7.
