One process you can always see running on Windows XP and later versions is the "Winlogon.exe". What is it? it is a process belonging to the Windows login manager that handles the users authentication on your system. This program is vital for the stability and security of your computer and not recommended to be terminated or disabled. It also responsible for Windows Activation code.

Where is Winlogon.exe located?
The file is located in the folder "C:\Windows\System32". If not then you might have a virus, spyware, trojan or worm disguised as Winlogon. If you want to locate the file, open the Task Manager, right-click the process name and click the Open File Location option.

If you find this process running from anywhere else than the default location then you should be warned and immediately perform a full scan with a good antivirus program.
